Red White Blue Ice Cubes (Printable Version)

Layered red, white and blue ice cubes with blueberries, coconut and strawberries for festive summer drinks.

# What You Need:

→ Fruit

01 - 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
02 - 1/2 cup strawberries, hulled and chopped
03 - 1/2 cup fresh coconut meat or unsweetened shredded coconut

→ Liquids

04 - 1 cup coconut water
05 - 1 cup natural blueberry juice
06 - 1 cup natural strawberry juice or cranberry juice

# Directions:

01 - Rinse all fruit thoroughly. Hull and chop strawberries. If using fresh coconut meat, cut into small pieces.
02 - Distribute blueberries to fill one-third of each ice cube compartment. Pour enough blueberry juice into each compartment to just cover the berries. Place the tray in the freezer and freeze for approximately 1 hour or until solid.
03 - Once the blue layer is frozen solid, add a layer of coconut meat or a small sprinkle of shredded coconut over each cube. Pour coconut water into each compartment to fill the next third. Freeze for an additional hour until firm.
04 - Top each compartment with chopped strawberries. Fill to the top with strawberry juice or cranberry juice. Freeze until completely solid, about 2 more hours.
05 - Once fully solid, remove ice cubes from the tray. Add to beverages such as lemonade, sparkling water, or cocktails for a festive presentation.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • Everyone will ask how you got those stunning layers in your drink.
  • You get a burst of fruity flavor with every sip, not just plain ice dilution.
02 -
  • Don't rush freezing each layer or the colors bleed—learned this after my first tray turned a patriotic swirl.
  • Letting the coconut water chill in the freezer briefly before pouring makes the middle layer extra sharp and defined.
03 -
  • Let each layer freeze just until set—too long and ice crystals may form, too short and the layers blend.
  • Small measuring cups or a squeeze bottle help control the pour for sharper stripes.
